Chapter 37 - And So 10 Years Pass

Dende watched over Mr. Popo as he gathered some herbs together.  Dende was planning to make a delicious drink of water with minerals and vitamins.  He counted the amount of herbs he had when Shin-Piccolo walked up to him.
"Dende-san, why do you always do that?"
"Because its nice.  You should try it Piccolo."
The young Nameksejin man smiled.  He had grown much during the ten years.  Shin-Piccolo was sporting a new type of style.  He was wearing the typical Namek outfit, but with a cape wrapped around his neck, falling over his back.  Dende had to look up to talk to him now.  Piccolo had grown so much...and so has his power.
"Piccolo-" called Popo, "Linni is here to see you."
Piccolo sighed.
"I didn't think she was serious about coming here today about this..."
Sure enough it was Linni, and Piccolo walked outside to meet her.  She smiled and held up a bag.  Linni had also done some growing up in the 10 years.  She was taller, mature, beautiful, but still cheerful.
"I came like I said I would Piccolo!"

For the next few hours, Linni gave Piccolo a range of clothing to choose from.  Of course Piccolo was surprised at the style, but didn't like it much since it was so different.  When he told her about what he thought of the clothes to his old clothes, Linni reminded him.
"Piccolo, choose something please!  You need clothes for the upcoming event on Earth.  There is no way I'm going to let you rome around Earth dressed like that."
Piccolo sighed and took a pair of jeans, shirt, shoes, socks and a hat.  To finish off the outfit, Linni gave him a pair of sunglasses.
Piccolo stood their, sweat dropped embarrassed.
"It looks real Earthly..." Dende told him, "and now you both are done, we can have that water drink I made for us."
It then hit him.
"Oh, I forgot I don't have the last herb I need."
"Why not?" Linni questioned.
"Its real rare, and I have to go get some.  Might as well since I've got the rest of the ingredients..."
Dende was about to fly off when Shin Piccolo stopped him.
"Let me go for you Dende-san.  In your old age, I have to do it for I'm much younger than you.  Please don't tell me not to go.  I see you get that herb all the time.  Just tell me where to go."
"You cannot get it Piccolo."
"Why?"
"Because its not as easy to just go get it in the forest.  You have to get it off a friend of mine."
"Eh?"
"You have another friend I don't know about?" Piccolo asked.
Dende smiled and began walking off, taking flight into the air.
"How about you come with me Piccolo.  You can come too Linni."
The two agreed to see who this 'friend' was, and followed the Guardian into the sky.

When they descended, Linni and Piccolo found themselves in a forest.  They followed Dende into the depths of the forest, questioning him if he knew where he was going.
"I may be old, but I still have my memory.  After all, I've been his friend for many years."
The three soon stumbled across a water stream when they heard something among the trees.  After some looking around, they heard a scream.  Running quickly, Piccolo and Linni followed the cry to find a small dark skinned girl being attacked by a giant bear.
"That bear is huge!" Linni cried as Dende emerged from the trees.
The two were about to leap to action when a voice told them to halt.  The voice was from a strong man, no doubt about it.  Linni and Piccolo turned around to see a large man standing on a rock.  He was also dark skinned, with black hair, and he was dressed like a Indian from a small village.  The man eyed them both carefully and then jumped at the bear.  He grabbed it, and after a small brawl, he tamed the wild beast.
"I told you never to leave the safety of the village Kiuobi."
The small girl apologized, before he smiled and picked her up with his mighty arms.  He turned to Linni and Piccolo who stood their like statues.  He then turned his attention to Dende standing a few feet behind them.
"Is that you Dende-san?"
"It is.  I came to see you about the herbs."
"You ran out of them again?" the man laughed.  His voice was strong.
Linni and Piccolo watched in stunned amazement as the two talked.
"Come back to the village Dende-san, and I will give you some."
The man walked off, and Dende motioned for his two younger friends to come along.  It wasn't before long, Dende revealed to them that that was his friend he told them about.

After reaching the small village, Linni and Piccolo examined the place.  They were like American Indians...all living in nature, dressed in the same type of garments.  They stood outside as Dende's friend got him the herbs.
"So how's being guardian going?" they both heard him ask Dende.
"Its going steady.  There were some attacks, but the fighters of Earth were able to stop them."
"Yes, I sensed those battles.  Remember if you ever need me, just call me.  You know I'm a maintainer of peace around here."
"I know.  You were back then, and you still are.  After all, you have rare power."
Piccolo and Linni listened in, pondering over the conversation, and where it was leading to, until a group of small kids kicked a ball over to them.  Linni gave the ball back to the children, as Piccolo watched.  She laughed, and Piccolo said that children were always happy.  Dende and his friend then joined them outside.  The tall man then extended them an invitation.
"Would you all like to have dinner here tonight?"
Dende didn't mind.  Piccolo didn't have any plans, and Linni had the day off work, and so they joined them.
"This will be great.  A big feast!  Hopefully we will not be disturbed by those land robbers."
"What do you mean?" Dende inquired.
This friend explained that lately, a group of people were trying to get him, the leader of the village, to sign an agreement to give them the land for commercial use.  They had threatened them, and kept causing trouble for everyone in the village, and under his protection.
Linni and Piccolo followed, listening intently when they came up to a hut.  A woman then walked outside.  She was the man's wife.
"Sorry Linni, Piccolo...how did I ever forget to introduce." Dende laughed, "This is my friend, Omober, and his lovely wife."
Dende introduced his two friends to Omober and his wife.
"Linni, and Piccolo."
They greeted one another, when two young boys and a young girl ran up to them, tugging at them.
"The feast!!  Its time!!"
They were Omober's children.
That night, the dinner was delicious.  There was such a wide variety of foods, that Piccolo and Linni never experienced.  As Nameks, Piccolo and Dende didn't eat much, but did try the food.  Suddenly in the middle of the dancing, a dinosaur appeared and begun attacking the village.
"What is going on Omober?" his wife asked.
The man stood up.
"I bet its those robbers again."
He told his wife and children to get to safety with the other villages.  Piccolo and Linni remained behind.  Both wanted to help, and leapt to action as Omober watched.  The two were fighting the gigantic dinosaur, as everything crumbled around them.  Dende told the two to be careful since the village was being destroyed...something the robbers wanted.  When the robbers were discovered outside, hiding, Linni and Piccolo caught them and hit them unconscious.
"Job well done!" Linni cheered, when the dinosaur was about to step onto a group of villages.  Quick on their feet, the two fighters flew into action when they paused to see Omober hovering above the beast.  He raised his hands, and the dinosaur was lifted off the ground.  Placing his hands together, Omober emitted sonic waves that helped calm the beast down.  He then grabbed the dinosaur's tail and flew it to the outside of the village where it couldn't attack them no more.  When he returned, Piccolo and Linni had the robbers tied up in robes.
"Thank you both, very much." Omober said.
"It was nothing, really." Linni said.
"You really surprised us." Piccolo added.
"Omober is incredibly powerful.  He may be only a human, but he inherited great strength." Dende told them.

The night ended with the three flying back home, as everyone waved goodbye to them.  Dende held the herbs, and smiled.
"Dende-san," Piccolo begun, "you never told us your friend was powerful."
"Omober has helped protect the Earth from threats for many years before all of you were born."
"That's amazing.  I wonder how he became so strong." Linni said.
Dende just smiled.
