Chapter 42 - Double Date

Vegeta turned around from his desk, taking off his glasses.
"You're joking right?"
Gokou shook his head.
"No.  I wasn't going to go through with it, but Rue made me."
"Gokou, you know I have no time with this kind of stuff.  I have my examinations coming up and I have to study for them."
Gokou walked over to his table and looked at all the medical textbooks scattered everywhere.  It gave him a headache just looking at them.
"Come on Vegeta!  It's only for one night.  You're a smart guy.  One night of not studying isn't going to kill you."
Gokou took Vegeta by his shoulders as he continued to read.
"After all, you look like you need to relax anyway."
Vegeta turned around, scaring Gokou.  He thought he was going to kick him or something.  Vegeta was a hard worker, and he didn't relax much.
"If I had any time off from studying, I trained to help me relax."
Gokou was about to give up.
"Come on Vegeta.  Just do this once for me and I won't ask anything off you ever again."
"Why so desperate?  Since when did you like opera?"
"Since Rue said I had too."
Vegeta adjusted his glasses and raised an eyebrow.
"So let me get the story straight.  You want to go after this girl who's already taken?  The only way to is to go to this opera, but her sister is coming too?"
"Yeah.  Rue suggested that if she's there, I can't talk to Art properly."
"Rue eh?  Always causing trouble." Vegeta stood up and walked to the window, "See what the females reduce males too?  Its embarrassing."  Vegeta laughed.  "Not me though."
"Come on Vegeta.  Big favour!"
"You're not going to leave me alone will you?"
"No"
"Then I have no choice.  To get you off my back."
"Thanks Vegeta."
"No problem."

Gokou stood outside the opera theatre alone.  He was dressed in a suit, buttoned up with a tie.  Art and Painta soon turned up.  They were also dressed nicely.
"You look beautiful Art." Gokou told her.
"Thank you."
Painta glared at Gokou as he looked at her and smiled.
"You look great too Painta."
Painta blushed and smiled.
"Gee, thanks."
Vegeta then turned up also dressed in a suit, except he didn't button his jacket together, and his dress shirt was on loose.  No tie or bow tie, and the shirt was un-tucked.
"Hard day Vegeta?" Gokou asked.
"Kind of."
He turned to Art and Painta.
"Sorry I'm late.  Has it already started?"
"No, in 15 minutes." Art said.
Gokou introduced the two women to Vegeta, but just as the introductions were finished, Painta grabbed Vegeta's arm and smiled at him.  Vegeta watched her in surprise and embarrassment.  He leaned over to Gokou.
"I assume this is Painta?"
"Yeah."
"You owe me big time, you hear me?" Vegeta told him.
Gokou nodded.
Painta dragged Vegeta inside, and Gokou led Art inside.

The opera was long and intense.  It wasn't as bad as he thought it would turn out to be.  Gokou watched on, and turned to Art.  She was so absorbed into the opera, which made him admire her love for the arts.
Vegeta however wasn't enjoying himself at all.  His head was aching as Painta kept her hold on him, asking him plenty of questions about his personal life.
"So you like sport cars?"
"Yeah"
"I DO TOO!"

***

After the opera they headed to a nearby restaurant located in a tall skyscraper where you could oversee the entire city.
It was an okay dinner.  They all got along, especially Gokou and Art.
" I heard you're related to Hercule."
"Yeah I am.  He's my great great grandfather."
"That's amazing."
"My grandmother told me a lot about him."
"He was a great fighter wasn't he?"
"I guess so."
"Can you fight too Gokou?"
"I can."
"You don't think it's a bad thing?"
"To protect the ones you love."
Art smiled.
"Would you protect me Vegeta?" Painta asked all star eyed again.
"Ah, well..." he started.
Art and Gokou laughed at the two.
"So is Suite good to you Art?" Gokou asked.
"Yes he is, but he works a lot, and I don't always see him.  I wish he didn't though." Art turned to Gokou, "Are you seeing anyone at the moment?"
"No I'm not."
"Why?  You're a nice guy."
"I don't think I can measure up."
"That's wrong.  Why you say something like that?"
"Because my power scares people, and right now I don't think I deserve her."
"Deserve her?" Art asked.
Gokou then realized what he said, and didn't know what to say now.  Luckily Vegeta's cell phone rang.  After the conversation, Vegeta revealed he had to leave.  His mother needed his help at home with some work she had to complete.  Painta looked disappointed but he wasn't, although he wasn't trying to show it.  Inside he was jumping with joy.
"I have to go too." Gokou told them. He didn't know if he could do this if his friends weren't around.  Art continued to look at him in wonder when all of a sudden a large bomb went off on the streets.  They all looked down from the windows and saw people running for their lives.  Gun shots were going off, and the screaming was horrific.  Gokou looked in shock as Vegeta watched in anger.
Suddenly something flew up to the window and looked at the two.  It was a normal human man who out stretched his hands to release a large energy attack.  The restaurant exploded into pieces, and when the rubble subsided, Gokou and Vegeta were holding the citizens in the restaurant in the air.  Painta was holding Vegeta tight around his neck, and he couldn't breathe.
"What was that all about?" Gokou asked.
Art was being held by his arm as everyone else were perched on his other arm.
"That was scary!" Art cried, "Gokou, what's going on?!"
Gokou looked around the surrounding area and through the burning smoke, the human man appeared, still hovering in the air.
"Vegeta" he called.
"Yeah? What?" he struggled to say as Painta still had her arms around his neck.
"Take these people to safety."
Vegeta couldn't object.  He didn't want too.  The faster he could get rid of Painta, the better.
"Please be careful Gokou." Art told him.
He smiled as Vegeta took everyone to safety.
"What's all this about?!" Gokou yelled.
The man remained still.
"Aren't you going to answer me?!"
The man remained shrouded in darkness.
"You afraid of me?  Maybe you're still a human, but hurting others?  I won't let that one go easily." Gokou continued.
The human said nothing, but:
"Kill! Kill! Order! Order! Order kill Gokou!"
Gokou looked surprised as the man flew at him.  They fought for a bit, and the man wasn't that strong, however his energy attacks were a little tougher than he thought.  He delivered an attack, but it was deflected by Vegeta.
"Is everyone okay?" Gokou asked.
"Yeah.  All safe." Vegeta turned to the human, "And what is this about?"
"Don't ask." Gokou told him.
The human charged again and the fighting resumed.  Art and Painta watched from the ground like many others.  Art was a little worried for Gokou's safety.  She worried in silence.  Painta however was cheering them on.
Vegeta fought on a little, but as the man went to punch him, he grabbed his wrist and tossed him into one of the buildings.  Something then fell of his wrist and landed inside the broken part of the building.  He regained himself and continued in his actions.
In his final attack, the human charged, but was hit aside by Vegeta.  Gokou charged up an energy ball but then paused.
"What are you waiting for?!" Vegeta yelled.
Gokou couldn't do it.  He was a human.
"Go on!" Vegeta yelled again.
The human recovered and grabbed hold of Gokou, making him loose his grip on his energy attack.  The human man begun to strangle him, but just as Gokou was going to toss him off, the man charged up and blew up.
"Gokou!" Vegeta called.
Smoke covered the sky, and Art watched in shock.
"Gokou?"
He was fine though, just a little shocked that he blew up on them.
"Why didn't you finish him off?!" Vegeta demanded.
Gokou didn't say anything, and Vegeta let it go.  Vegeta then noticed the side of the building, and went to investigate.  He saw the item which the human dropped.  Vegeta picked it up and examined it. It took him by shock.
"What is it Vegeta?  You find something?" Gokou inquired.
"I think so."
Gokou flew up to him.
"What?"
"It's a Capsule Corporation watch."
"So?  Why you look so shocked?"
"It's because this model is outdated." Vegeta put the watch to Gokou's face, "This model existed 72 years ago."
"Maybe he just had an old version?  He couldn't afford the new ones." Gokou said.
"You kidding?  The time and date on this thing doesn't even correspond with ours.  It dates back to 828AD!"
"The guy is probably just late.  You're paranoid Vegeta."
"You're probably right.  After all, he was a crazy man.  But how can a human have that kind of power?"
"Don't give yourself a headache over it." Gokou said, wiping the soot from his face, "Lets go."

***

Vegeta and Gokou took the girls home, still mucked up from battle.
"So this is where you live?" Gokou asked.
"Yes.  Cosy home." Art said, "Are you sure you're not hurt?"
"No"
She turned to Gokou and smiled gently.
"Thanks for taking me Gokou."
"It was fun Art."
Her face then looked a little confused.  She seemed like she wanted to ask something but nothing came out.  When she found the voice to ask, Pesto came outside.
"About time!"
"Get back inside Pesto!" Painta yelled.
It was time to leave, but Vegeta couldn't make Gokou leave.  Vegeta already said his goodbyes to Painta, and was aching to leave before she starts something on him again.
"What is it Gokou?" Art asked.
"You're hand."
Art looked at it.  Her right hand was badly injured from the explosion.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I didn't think much of it Gokou.  After all, you and Vegeta did save us all."
Gokou smiled, and took her hand.
"But still.  If you injure yourself like this, how can you paint?"
All of a sudden, their father, Easel, walked outside.  He was shocked to see Gokou holding Art's hand.
"You dirty bastard!" he yelled, "Let go of her!  Don't you get it?!  She's with that winner Suite.  I saw you at the Art Gallery, and I knew it from the beginning.  A person like you doesn't belong with my daughter!"
Pesto tried to calm his father down, and everyone tried to explain, but the man was furious that nothing went through.  He picked up his shot gun and aimed it at Gokou.  Art was terrified.
"Papa!"
"Get inside Art!"
Painta took Art inside before something else erupted.
"Art!" Gokou took a step forward, but Easel raised his shot gun at him.  Vegeta told the man to calm down, but he didn't.  Easel then threatened Vegeta but the young man was ready for action. Gokou then held him back, and tried to explain to the father about the incident in the city.  However he thought Gokou was lying, and he did it to Art.  Vegeta continued to be furious.
"I don't want to see you again!  If you come near my daughter, I'll kill you!" and with that the man disappeared inside the house.  Pesto wanted to remain outside, but his father told him to go inside too.  Pesto looked at Gokou's torn face and retreated.
"Sorry Gokou-san" he told him.

There was a brief silence as Vegeta watched Gokou hang hid head.  Breaking the silence, Vegeta told him.
"You want me to hurt him?"
Gokou looked up.
"No.  He was right."
"What?!"
"I should've known from the beginning that it wouldn't work.  I don't deserve her, and she's best with Suite."
"Are you insane?  I saw both of you together and-"
"Yeah, but her dad was doing it because he wants the best for her."
Vegeta stared at Gokou as he took off into the sky.  He lowered his fists and followed him.
"Gokou-"
"Its over Vegeta.  Don't worry about it."
