Chapter
43 - Forbidden Love
It
was now a Wednesday, and Gokou's boss was asking him for his
latest photographs. He looked at them and raised an
eyebrow.
"Gokou, it might just be me. Tell me if I'm wrong,
but your latest photographs aren't up to standard."
"I'm sorry. So much has been on my mind."
"You have till end of day to get them back to me. I
can't have these for the front cover."
***
Pastri
was relaying the story which Vegeta told her of the incident
with Art's father, to Linni. Linni was on her break and
was in for a quick lunch at the Son Cafe.
"Really?" Linni asked.
"Yeah, Vegeta told me on the night of the date. Gokou
trudged to his room without a single word to me, so Vegeta
explained to me what happened."
"That's real harsh isn't it?" Linni said.
"I think it's also affecting him at work. His boss
hasn't been satisfied with his work lately, and he hasn't been
eating."
"Not eating? Are you for real?"
"I'm not, and I thought I had it hard when I first met
Refere."
"No, that was just funny." Linni laughed.
***
Gokou
had flew back to the last place where he had taken his
photos. He kept ditching his photos because they weren't
perfect anymore. Something else was on his mind, and he
couldn't take it no more. He screw up the photo and tossed
it away when he heard:
"Ouch! Watch were you're throwing your rubbish
loser!"
Gokou turned around to see Pesto.
"Pesto?"
"Gokou-san? I didn't know it was you."
Gokou struggled a smile and took the photo and placed it in the
bin.
"How are you going?" Gokou inquired.
Pesto saw the sadness in Gokou's face and said softly, "I'm
okay."
"How about Art?"
"She's okay. Her hand is still recovering
though. Sorry if my dad was so insane the other day Gokou.
He didn't know the story, and he wouldn't listen to any of
us. It's nothing. You don't have feelings for Art
anyway right?"
Silence.
"Right?" Pesto repeated.
Pesto stared at him and then realized the truth.
"You do?!"
"Doesn't matter anymore anyway. I'm not allowed to
see Art ever. Its forbidden now."
"No way! This is amazing!" Pesto laughed.
"Why?" Gokou asked.
"I'd rather have you as my sis' boyfriend than that Suite
guy."
"Why? He's more richer than me and-"
"I can't hangout with him like I can with you. After
all, you can fight and kick a soccer ball better than him."
Gokou laughed softly.
"Just leave it to me" Pesto said confidently, and ran
off, leaving Gokou behind, ever so confused.
***
"What
did you do?" Art demanded.
Pesto stood still, but was confident in what he was trying to
achieve.
"Nothing, but could you meet up Gokou-san tonight at
11pm?"
"Did you plan something?"
"No" Pesto said innocently, however Art knew her
brother much more than he thought.
"I know what you're doing Pesto-chan. I knew from the
beginning that you never liked Suite, but-"
"Yeah," he interrupted, "But Gokou is
better."
"Is this what you're up too?"
Pesto glowed red, lost for words as Art walked to her
window. She looked up at the moon and smiled.
"Gokou is a nice guy, but I'm seeing Suite. Father
likes him."
"Yeah, but Dad didn't know Gokou-san saved you and Painta."
"He won't listen."
"Come on Sis. Just this once. I already told
Gokou" Pesto lied.
"It won't be right for me to do that if I'm courting with
Suite." Art argued.
"Well will it be nice to leave Gokou-san in the dust after
he saved you, and Dad threatened him?" Pesto reasoned.
Art turned to him and agreed. It wouldn't be nice if she
left Gokou in that state, but now it was confusing.
Suite? or perhaps Gokou? She shook her brother's
hand.
"You twisted my arm."
They laughed, unaware someone standing at the door, peering in.
***
Gokou
pressed the button at Capsule Corporation, and the door was
answered by Bobulla.
"Don't you look like you're in a rush Gokou."
"Is Vegeta here Bobulla-san?"
"He's in his room. Hold on, I'll go get him."
Bobulla disappeared, and Vegeta soon appeared at the door.
"What's up?"
"Pesto has arranged it so I can go see Art."
"I thought you gave up?"
Gokou laughed.
"I guess you want me to come along?"
"Could you? Keep any eye out for me."
Vegeta sighed and went with him.
***
It
was dark, and Vegeta was sitting impatiently with Gokou.
Soon, Art turned up and Gokou motioned for Vegeta to
leave. He sighed, and walked off into the opposite
direction where he bumped into Pesto. He too was waiting
for someone.
"Pesto?"
"Yeah. How are they going?"
"Who knows?" Vegeta answered.
Art
confessed to Gokou, eyes a little watering.
"I can't do this Gokou. I'm seeing Suite, and I love
him. He cares a lot for me, and he's never hurt me."
Gokou took her by the shoulders.
"I know I know, but I can't leave it like this,
but..." he voice lowered, "I guess its over now.
I wish I met you before you met Suite, but I'm sure both of you
will be great together."
Art noticed the trembling in his voice. Not even his
warrior nature allowed him the self control he needed to conquer
his sorrows. After all, he never met anyone else like her.
"That's it." Gokou said, turning around a little
forlorn. The man began to walk off as Art watched
helplessly.
Goodbye Art...
At the last minute when he begun to fly off, forgetting
about Vegeta, Art grabbed his hand.
"Gokou-"
Gokou tore his hand away.
"It's in the best interest for your Dad...for you to marry
a guy who's more rich and high classes than me."
Art couldn't believe what she heard, but wanting to be angry,
she couldn't find the fuel. She realized that it did have
some truth.
There was a slight pause before Pesto and Vegeta barged in on
their conversation.
"Art, Dad's coming. We've got to go."
"We're finished now anyway." Gokou told him without
turning around. Pesto noticed the intensity of the
situation.
"Don't go Gokou-san!" Pesto said.
"Some things can't be helped Pesto." and he took off
with Vegeta trailing after him.
Art remained still in her own world, until the voice of her
Father was heard. Pesto quickly took her arm.
"You crazy? Let's go before Dad sees us."
The
two were lucky and got back through Art's window before their
Dad found them, but a surprise was their waiting for them.
"Where did you both come from?!"
They both turned around to see Suite standing there, waiting.
"We were-" Pesto began.
"Art can answer for herself!" he yelled at
Pesto. The boy turned angry, and watched as the man took
Art by her shoulders and shook her, but she was still locked
into her emotions after parting with Gokou.
"You were with that loser Gokou weren't you?!" he
demanded.
Art didn't answer. Shook her again. Easel then
walked in. He heard the voices and also raised an eyebrow
at Pesto, who he then told to go into his room.
"But-" he argued.
"Go!" Easel yelled.
Pesto had no choice, and left his sister behind. He felt
terrible. He believed it was all his fault.
"If
I find you with that man again-" Suite raised his voice and
threw her to the floor. She injured the same hand she
painted with, but Suite didn't seem to care.
"Remember Art, you belong to me!" and with that, Suite
left.
Art held her hurt wrist and watched her father who eventually
left after telling her that he was right. Gokou was a nuisance.
Art then realized the reality which she never saw before, and it
hurt her. A few minutes later, Painta entered the room to
comfort her.
"How did you know?" Art cried.
"Mum told me what was going on."
and Painta hugged her as her younger sister cried.
